You need…

1. The Father that fulfills                     2. The strength in surrender

3. The availability of assistance     4. The freedom of forgiveness

5. The reality of wrong

*How do I get totally dependent upon God?

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

Your heavenly Father already knows all your needs, 33 and he will give you all you need from day to day if you live for him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern. Matthew 6:31-33

#3- Use prayer

Philippians 4:6b

…though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does.  4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 2Corinthians 10:3-4

How you pray does matter…

1st- Our Father… Prayer is all about building a                                         .

The lips of an immoral woman are as sweet as honey, and her mouth is smoother than oil. 4 But the result is as bitter as poison, sharp as a double-edged sword. 5 Her feet go down to death; her steps lead straight to the grave. 6 For she does not care about the path to life. Proverbs 5:3-6

#1- He wants a relationship with you

#2- He wants you to grow to be more and more like Christ

If you try to keep your life for yourself, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for me, you will find true life. Matthew 16:25

“My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will, not mine.” Matthew 26:39

                                                                                    Over please….

…you must give up everything you have to be my follower… Luke 14:33                                                                                                       (NCV)

When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. Matthew 19:22

…one of the teachers of religious law said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you no matter where you go!”20 But Jesus said, “Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but I, the Son of Man, have no home of my own, not even a place to lay my head.”21 Another of his disciples said, “Lord, first let me return home and bury my father.” 22 But Jesus told him, “Follow me now! Let those who are spiritually dead care for their own dead.” Matthew 8:19+

God blesses those who are persecuted because they live for God…                                                                                       -Matthew 5:10

3rd- what’s your                        in following Jesus?

…the reason you don’t have what you want is that you don’t ask God for it. 3 And even when you do ask, you don’t get it because your whole motive is wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure. James 4:2-3

…we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. 29 For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn, with many brothers and sisters. 30 And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And he gave them right standing with himself, and he promised them his glory. Romans 8:28-30

2. uncover problem

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2

3. expect difficult

The old sinful nature loves to do evil, which is just opposite from what the Holy Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are opposite from what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, and your choices are never free from this conflict. Galatians 5:17

1st - stand up to evil… “Now my soul is deeply troubled. Should I pray, ‘Father, save me from what lies ahead’? But that is the very reason why I came! 28 Father, bring glory to your name.” John 12:27-28

2nd- deal with intense temptation… “Keep alert and pray. Otherwise temptation will overpower you. For though the spirit is willing enough, the body is weak!” Matthew 26:41

3rd- endure terrible pain… Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” Luke 32:34

4th- be ok in the midst of rejection… Jesus said, “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding the truth from those who think themselves so wise and clever, and for revealing it to the childlike.”

-Luke 10:21

5th- remain humble and focused… After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Matthew 14:23

6th- make powerful choices… Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. 13 When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them… Luke 6:12-13

7th- help people… …the report of his power spread even faster, and vast crowds came to hear him preach and to be healed of their diseases. 16 But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer. Luke 5:15-16

“Lord, teach us to pray…” Luke 11:1

Key vs. “This, then, is how you should pray: ”‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ 14 For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” Matthew 6:9-15

RESTORATION #7

I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,” declares the LORD… Jeremiah 30:17

Res·to·ra·tion (n) the restoring of something to a whole or complete condition; bringing something back to an earlier and usually better condition; renewal.

Key verse: Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love.

Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins. 2 Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. 3 For I recognize my shameful deeds— they haunt me day and night. 4 Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. You will be proved right in what you say, and your judgment against me is just. 5 For I was born a sinner— yes, from the moment my mother conceived me. 6 But you desire honesty from the heart, so you can teach me to be wise in my inmost being. 7 Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. 8 Oh, give me back my joy again; you have broken me— now let me rejoice. 9 Don’t keep looking at my sins. Remove the stain of my guilt. 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me. 11 Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me again the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you. 13 Then I will teach your ways to sinners, and they will return to you. 14 Forgive me for shedding blood, O God who saves; then I will joyfully sing of your forgiveness. 15 Unseal my lips, O Lord, that I may praise you. 16 You would not be pleased with sacrifices, or I would bring them. If I brought you a burnt offering, you would not accept it. 17 The sacrifice you want is a broken spirit. A broken and repentant heart, O God, you will not despise. -                                                                                                       Psalm 51:1-17

2Samuel 12:1-9

What forms of “turning the lights on” is God using in your life?

Oh, what joy for those whose rebellion is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight! 2 Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of sin, whose lives are lived in complete honesty! 3 When I refused to confess my sin, I was weak and miserable, and I groaned all day long. 4 Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me. Psalm 32:1-4

This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.  20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.  21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.”

-Psalm 51:1-17

How does a person get into heaven?

“Come now, let us argue this out,”
says the LORD. Isaiah 1:18

#Top 5 problems with “good people go to heaven”:

Problem #1- What is ?
If you think you can judge others, you are wrong. When you judge them, you are really judging yourself guilty, because you do the same things they do. Romans 2:1(NCV)

Problem #4- It’s not …

Problem #5- Jesus never …
I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter
the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:20

One of the criminals hanging beside him scoffed, “So you’re the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself—and us, too, while you’re at it!” 40 But the other criminal protested, “Don’t you fear God even when you are dying? 41 We deserve to die for our evil deeds, but this man hasn’t done anything wrong.” Luke :23:39-41

Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.” Luke 23:42

And Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.” Luke 23:43

Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” 49 The other guests began to say among themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?” 50 Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” Luke 7:48-50

*5 things that forgiven people do:
1. Forgiven people admit they are …
Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. You will be proved right in what you say, and your judgment against me is just. Psalm 51:4

For the wages of sin is death… Romans 6:23

2. Forgiven people recognize that they cannot do enough to …
God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

3. Forgiven people accept God’s …
…the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6.23

4. Forgiven people live …
But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. 13 They are reborn! John 1:12-13a

5. Forgiven people of this new life…
…you have been saved by grace through believing. You did not save yourselves; it was a gift from God. 9 It was not the result of your own efforts, so you cannot brag about it. 10 God has made us what we are. In Christ Jesus, God made us to do good works, which God planned in advance for us to live our lives doing. Ephesians 2:8-10 (NCV)

God Questions

Why should I believe the Bible?

“Come now, let us argue this out,”

says the Lord. Isaiah 1:18

*Top FIVE Weird and Strange Bible Myths:

Myth #1- The Bible doesn’t

Many people have written accounts about the events that took place among us. 2 They used as their source material the reports circulating among us from the early disciples and other eyewitnesses of what God has done in fulfillment of His promises. 3 Having carefully investigated all of these accounts from the beginning, I have decided to write a careful summary for you, 4 to reassure you of the truth of all you were taught. Luke 1:1-4

Myth #2- The Bible is

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right. 17 It is God’s way of preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing God wants us to do. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Myth #3- The Bible isn’t
Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.” 20 The Jews replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?”  21 But the temple he had spoken of was his body.  22 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the Scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken. John 2:19-22

Above all, you must understand that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophets themselves 21 or because they wanted to prophesy. It was the Holy Spirit who moved the prophets to speak from God. 2 Peter 1:20-21

Myth #4.                                    the Bible…

Then he explained to them, “You have been permitted to understand the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven, but others have not. 12 To those who are open to my teaching, more understanding will be given, and they will have an abundance of knowledge. But to those who are not listening, even what they have will be taken away from them.           Continued on other side…

13 That is why I tell these stories, because people see what I do, but they don’t really see. They hear what I say, but they don’t really hear, and they don’t understand. Matthew 13:11-13

Myth #5. The Bible

In the beginning the Word already existed. He was with God, and he was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God…  So the Word became human and lived here on earth among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the only Son of the Father. John 1:1-2&14

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.  18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.  19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. John 3:17-19

My response:

#1-

All these events happened to them as examples for us. They were written down to warn us, who live at the time when this age is drawing to a close. 1 Corinthians 10:11

#2-

He did it to teach you that people need more than bread for their life; real life comes by feeding on every word of the Lord. Deuteronomy 8:3 NLT

#3-

You carefully study the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. They do in fact tell about me, 40 but you refuse to come to me to have that life. John 5:39-40(NCV)

#4-

“He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” Luke 14:35

#5-

“He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Luke 4:18-19
